Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine in Jacksonville, Florida
Acupuncture--Acupuncture is a 3,000 year old treatment method that began in China but is practiced around the world. Acupuncture uses hair thin needles to stimulate pressure points on the body to promote health, relieve pain, boost energy and release stress. The traditional thought about acupuncture is that it activates "Qi" in the body, or subtle energy that traverses the body and organs and keeps them functioning and healthy. Modern research suggests that acupuncture stimulates blood flow, releases endorphins, balances the nervous system and stimulates neurotransmitters that promote well-being.
Acupuncture treatment is based on specific diagnosis that looks at the body from a holistic point of view and seeks to not only treat the symptoms of disease, but also the root cause. The aim of acupuncture treatment is to harmonize and balance the entire body.

Acupuncture can be applied on different areas of the body including the limbs, body, face and head. Some other common acupuncture therapies are:
Cupping--Cupping, a form of Asian bodywork, is an effective form of therapy for painful and tight muscles and sports injuries. Also referred to as fire cupping, a flame is placed within a glass cup to create a vacuum. The cup is then quickly pressed to the surface of the body requiring therapy. Cupping can also be done without fire by using a manual pump. Most often this technique is used on larger body parts to treat pain or stiffness, but can also be used to treat illnesses like common cold and allergies.
Moxibustion--Moxibustion, also called "moxa," is a gentle form of heat therapy that can relieve pain and boost energy. Moxa is made of a dried herb called artemisia vulgaris (common name: mugwort). This can be placed on the end of an acupuncture needle or by holding the end of a formed moxa stick near an acupuncture point until the therapeutic warmth penetrates the area.
Acupuncture and/or Herbs for Fertility--Acupuncture is a wonderful aid to benefit fertility in both women and men. More soon...
Chinese Herbal Medicine & Dietary Therapy--Herbs hold innate healing properties that our bodies are well adapted to accept. Many pharmaceutical drugs harness the power of herbs by extracting their key components. However, taking herbs in their natural form is often a gentler way to promote healing in the body, with less potential for negative side effects. I specialize in Chinese herbal medicine which is a complex system of diagnosis and herbal selection, most often delivered in a formula of many different herbs that work together. Like with acupuncture, herbal medicine is designed to balance the body as a whole and treat not only the symptoms, but the root cause of disease. I also incorporate herbs from the western and ayurvedic (Indian system of medicine) herbal traditions as I see necessary. Dietary recommendations may be given, as diet is always considered the first line of defense in Chinese medicine.
Using herbal medicine along with acupuncture is often the best way to see amazing results. Herbs work in harmony with acupuncture and can boost the effectiveness of acupuncture.

- Electrical Stimulation Acupuncture-gentle electric current is applied to the needles to increase their effectiveness. This is similar to a TENS unit and is especially good for pain, but also can boost energy at any acupuncture point.
- Auriculotherapy (Ear Acupuncture)-Needles in the ear can be used as an effective treatment for reducing addictive tendencies, calming anxiety and panic and treating pain.
