My name is Kendra Lay and I am a graduate student studying Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in Portland. The purpose of this website is to share what I am learning about becoming and staying well with natural medicine. One of my first loves is nutrition and I love to cook healthy gluten-free food, so look for my recipe creations on the site. Feel free to explore, check out my blog, and contact me if you have any questions.
About Me
I have a passion for health and I was introduced to natural medicine at a young age by my mother. I have used acupuncture, homeopathy, massage, and chiropractic my entire life to stay healthy. I began studying nutrition on my own several years ago when I became aware that food allergens and other elements of my diet were making me sick. I soon realized that learning how to stay healthy was a passion of mine that I wanted to share with others. After looking into numerous different health-related career paths including mental health counseling, massage therapy, exercise science, and public health I discovered that by studying Oriental Medicine I would be able to offer my future patients a wide range of strategies and treatments to keep them healthy. So here I am!
When I am not in class I enjoying cooking, studying nutrition, working out, hiking and spending time with my boyfriend. I hold a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Humanities from the University of West Florida. Before studying Oriental Medicine I was an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer and a fundraising professional for Friends of the Children, a mentoring organization for at-risk youth in the Portland metro area.
