About Kendra
My name is Kendra Lay and I am a graduate student living in Austin, TX studying acupuncture, herbal medicine and nutrition. I currently treat patients at my school’s teaching clinic under the supervision of licensed acupuncturists. I greatly enjoy treating and learning about many different conditions, but I have a special interest in treating the following:
- male and female infertility
- women’s health concerns
- digestive complaints
- anxiety, depression and emotional health
- chronic pain and fibromyalgia
- endocrine issues
- autoimmune diseases
- headaches
- weight loss
- addictions
I have been eating and cooking gluten and dairy-free for six years and I love to share my knowledge on the topic. If you have any questions about the health benefits of this lifestyle, please feel free to contact me. Phone or in-person consultations are available.
My first love in the realm of natural medicine is nutrition, and I began educating myself about healthy eating several years ago when I became aware that food sensitivities and other elements of my diet were making me unwell. I’ve been amazed by what dietary changes and nutritional supplementation has done for my health! Along the way I also lost about 35 pounds!
I am learning clinical nutrition and functional medicine and will earn a certificate as an Applied Clinical Nutritionist though the Texas Chiropractic College. I envision a future practice where I will combine acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutrition, and lifestyle coaching to assist people in achieving a healthy and satisfying life.
When I am not in class I enjoy cooking, developing new recipes, listening to music, being outdoors, reading and hiking. I hold a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Humanities from the University of West Florida. Before studying natural medicine I was an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer and a fund-raising professional for Friends of the Children, a mentoring organization for at-risk youth in Portland, OR. I began my graduate studies in Chinese Medicine at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine and I am now studying at AOMA: Graduate School of Integrative Medicine.
